A soaPOPera for Laptops/iMacs (1997-2005)
in collaboration with Peter Sinclair

The work is an interactive immersive performance. Rhys Chatham plays solo or with a combo in his signature minimalist style. Rapahele Shirley creates site specific light sculptures and GH Hovagimyan controls the lights via a custom interface using gestural recognition. GH responds to Rhys's music via his gestures which control the Shirley's lights. The audience is all around or views the work from a platform above the players. The work is in production and is made to be customized for each performance/installation.

Four computers talk to one another, using synthetic voice and voice recognition software. During performances the computers are mounted on robot vehicles. They interact with each other and the human performers. When a guitar is played the computers sing along. In installation format the computers gossip with each other.
